Beach Boys announce 60th anniversary celebrations including 80-track Sounds of Summer album

The Beach Boys mark their 60th anniversary with an expanded version of their classic compilation.

Over the past six decades, The Beach Boys have released 29 studio albums.

They're maybe even better known for their endless run of hit singles, so it's no surprise that during that time they've had more than twice as many greatest hits compilations.

Perhaps their best best-of was 2003's stunning Sounds of Summer: The Very Best of The Beach Boys.

That 30-track compilation rounded up all of the Beach Boys' very biggest US hits, and for their 60th anniversary this year they've souped it up more than a Ford Thunderbird.

A special 3CD/6LP Expanded Edition released on June 17 will feature a whopping EIGHTY Beach Boys tracks, from their debut 'Surfin' Safari' in 1962 through to 1988's late-era hit 'Kokomo'

The new Sounds of Summer will be available in a range of formats and features 24 new mixes including two first-time stereo mixes, in addition to 22 new-and-improved stereo mixes produced using the latest digital technology.

Disc One replicates the original 1993 Sounds of Summer and has been remixed in immersive Dolby Atmos.

The band has teased upcoming re-releases of the 1972's Carl and the Passions – "So Tough" and 1973's Holland, which will follow last year's massive Feel Flows – The Sunflower and Surf’s Up Sessions 1969-1971 box set.

"It's hard to believe it’s been 60 years since we signed to Capitol Records and released our first album, Surfin' Safari," The Beach Boys said.

"We were just kids in 1962 and could have never dreamed about where our music would take us, that it would have such a big impact on the world, still be loved, and continue to be discovered by generation after generation.

"This is a huge milestone that we’re all very honoured to have achieved. And to our incredible fans, forever and new, we look forward to sharing even more throughout the year."
