Summer Holiday's cast from Cliff Richard's hit 1963 musical film: Where are they now?

Cliff Richard cemented himself as one of the UK's biggest entertainers when his feel-good musical Summer Holiday was released in 1963.

The film became the soundtrack of summer 1963, and perfectly summed up the feeling of an uprising of talented and spiritual youths that would turn into the Swinging Sixties.

It was also something of a passing of the torch, as Cliff's brand of teen idol popstar would soon be overtaken by the sound of Merseybeat groups later that year, with The Beatles releasing 'Love Me Do'.

But in early 1963, Cliff Richard was pop's prince, and Summer Holiday is still such an enjoyable watch nearly 60 years later. But where are the cast now?

1. Cliff Richard (Don)

   

   Where do you even start? Cliff was already Britain's biggest popstar by 1963, and he hasn't exactly slowed down ever since.

   Cliff would continue to stick around the charts for the next 50+ years, scoring hits with the likes of 'Congratulations', 'We Don't Talk Anymore', 'Devil Woman', 'Miss You Nights', 'Mistletoe and Wine' and many more.

   He is behind only Elvis and The Beatles in terms of singles success in the UK, and became the first rock star to be Knighted by the Queen, in 1995.

2. Lauri Peters (Barbra)

   

   American singer Lauri Peters had created the role of Liesl Von Trapp in the original 1959 Broadway production of The Sound of Music, and by 1963 she was married to actor Jon Voight (whom she'd divorce in 1967).

   She continued acting in the 1960s and 1970s, appearing as Moll in the revival of Marc Blitzstein's The Cradle Will Rock and the TV show Gunsmoke.

   Lauri later joined up with acting teacher Sanford Meisner to create the Meisner Extension at New York University in 1993, where she was artistic director and master teacher.

3. Una Stubbs (Sandy)

   

   Summer Holiday was Una Stubbs' first on-screen role, and a few years later she had her breakthrough role as Alf Garnett's daughter Rita in 'Til Death Us Do Part.

   She also had memorable roles in Fawlty Towers, Worzel Gummidge and was a team captain in Give Us a Clue.

   Una continued acting into her 80s on both stage and screen, most famously as Mrs Hudson in the hugely successful Sherlock TV drama starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

   She died aged 84, after a short illness, in August 2021.

4. Melvyn Hayes (Cyril)

   

   Melvyn had already appeared opposite Cliff in The Young Ones, but he would later have his most famous role in the 1970s sitcom It Ain't Half Hot Mum as Gloria.

   The 86-year-old actor has continued acting on TV and film over the decades, including notable roles in EastEnders, The Thin Blue Line, Benidorm and Drop the Dead Donkey.

   He was at one stage the pub landlord of the Stag Inn in Offchurch, Warwickshire, and also of the White Hart Tap in St Albans, Hertfordshire.

5. Jeremy Bulloch (Edwin)

   

   After playing one of Cliff's mates in Summer Holiday, Jeremy had roles in the 1970s including Doctor Who, and in 1977 he landed his biggest part.

   Jeremy played the physical aspects of Star Wars villain Boba Fett, who would become one of the franchise's most iconic characters. He even returned for a small role in 2005's Revenge of the Sith prequel.

   From 1979 to 1981, he was a regular in the ITV sitcom Agony, and his later television roles included a recurring role in Robin of Sherwood, and he had minor roles in three James Bond films, twice playing Smithers, an assistant to Q.

   Jeremy died from complications of Parkinson's disease on December 17, 2020 at St George's Hospital in Tooting, aged 75.

6. Teddy Green (Steve)

   

   Actor and dancer Teddy had also appeared in The Young Ones, and he would continue to have a prolific theatre career following the movie's release.

   Teddy would go on to appear in various theatre productions as a performer and choreographer well into the 1990s. His most recent on-screen role was in a 2006 episode of Holby City.

7. Pamela Hart and Jacqueline Daryl (Angie and Mimsie)

   

   Dancers Pamela and Jacqueline did not appear in any other on-screen roles after the 1960s. They are both thought to be in their 80s.
