He recently teamed up with country rocker Chris Stapleton to create a powerful rendition of the Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac classic, 'Oh Well'.
The song, originally penned by Green for Fleetwood Mac’s third studio album, Then Play On (1969), has a rich history of covers, but this new version is truly special.
In this fresh take on 'Oh Well', Chris Stapleton’s distinctive, gravelly voice takes centre stage. His raw and emotive vocals breathe new life into the iconic lines: “I can’t help about the shape I’m in / I can’t sing, I ain’t pretty and my legs are thin / But don’t ask me what I think of you / I might not give the answer that you want me to / Oh well.”
Stapleton’s delivery perfectly complements Slash’s signature paint-peeling riffs, creating a dynamic blend of blues rock energy.
The song 'Oh Well' has been covered by a diverse array of artists over the years. From Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to Kenny Wayne Shepherd, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, Haim, Aerosmith, Jason Isbell, Joe Jackson, and the Eels—each artist has left their unique mark on this timeless track. Now, with Slash and Stapleton’s collaboration, we get yet another memorable interpretation.
This electrifying cover is the second single from Slash’s highly anticipated sixth solo album, Orgy of the Damned, set to release on May 17.
The album pays homage to Slash’s love for classic blues, featuring an impressive lineup of guest vocalists. Alongside Chris Stapleton, listeners can expect to hear Gary Clark Jr, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, Dorothy, Iggy Pop, Paul Rodgers, Demi Lovato, Chris Robinson, and Beth Hart.
Backing Slash on Orgy of the Damned is a stellar house band. The ensemble includes two of his 1990s bandmates from Blues Ball: bassist Johnny Griparic and keyboardist Teddy ‘ZigZag’ Andreadis. Drummer Michael Jerome and singer/guitarist Tash Neal round out this formidable lineup, ensuring that the album delivers a powerful blues-rock punch.
