Fleetwood Mac are no more, Stevie Nicks has confirmed on more than one occasion following the sad death of Christine McVie.

Christine died in 2022 at the age of 79 after suffering from metastatic cancer, and Stevie Nicks has now opened up about losing her friend and bandmate without having the chance to say goodbye.

"This is the tragedy of it: I had not talked to Chris for a long time," Stevie told Rolling Stone, explaining that the time difference between England and the US made it hard for them to stay in touch between tours.

Stevie revealed that when she was told that Christine was ill, she planned to rent a plane and visit right away, but was told by McVie's family to wait to see how her condition was.

"A few hours later they called and said that she’d died. So I did not get to say goodbye to her," Stevie added.

Touched by an Angel

"My plan was to go and sit on her bed and sing 'Touched By an Angel' to her, like I did with my dad, for two or three hours or however long it took to either bring her back or send her off. I didn’t get to do that, and I was angry.

Stevie said of Christine: "This was a different kind of friend. This was my music soulmate, my best girlfriend. We kept that band afloat, the two of us, by keeping the peace, no matter what.

"By never letting people carry their problems into the studio, by stopping fights before they started, by making sure that our work was stellar. Even when we were doing lots of drugs, we had our eyes on everyone and everything.

"We were the keepers of Fleetwood Mac, and that is why we cannot replace her. We did replace Lindsey two times, and it was okay. No fighting, super fun. But Christine was different."

Stevie said that during the period from 1998 to 2015 when Fleetwood Mac toured without Christine, the band morphed into "a harder rock & roll band", before returning to their previous style on her return.

She added that "there is no more Fleetwod Mac now" because the band died with Christine, while confirming that she and her estranged musical and romantic partner Lindsey Buckingham exchanged a few words at McVie's celebration of life.
