Stevie Nicks is covering Buffalo Springfield's 1966 psychedelic smash hit.

Stevie Nicks has been busy of late on a massive US tour, but she's only released one solo single in the last eight years.

Now she's finally got back in the studio to lay down something special.

The Fleetwood Mac star has recorded a cover of the classic '60s hit 'For What It's Worth', written by Stephen Stills and originally released by Buffalo Springfield, and it's coming very soon.

"I am so excited to release my new song this Friday," Nicks wrote in a letter on Twitter.

"It's called 'For What It’s Worth' and it was written by Stephen Stills in 1966. It meant something to me then, and it means something to me now."

She added: "I always wanted to interpret it through the eyes of a woman – and it seems like today, in the times we live in, it has a lot to say... I can't wait for you to hear it."

Released in December 1966, Buffalo Springfield's original version of 'For What It's Worth' peaked at number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 the following spring.

Stevie's last single was 2020's standalone 'Show Them The Way', which had a video directed by Almost Famous and Vanilla Sky filmmaker Cameron Crowe.

Her last studio album was 2014's 24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault.

That album was made up of re-recordings of demos first recorded between 1969 and 1987, with a couple of songs dating from the 1990s.

The last new music Nicks released with Fleetwood Mac was 2013's digital only Extended Play, which featured her track 'Without You'.
