Eric Haydock played on some of The Hollies' biggest hits.
The musician has died at the age of 75, his friend Steve Talbot confirmed this weekend.
Haydock was the original bass player for The Hollies, and was also a founding member of the band.
He played on the Manchester band's 1965 UK number one hit 'I'm Alive' and 'Just One Look'.
He performed with the band until 1966, when he was replaced in 1966 by Bernie Calvert, after disputes surrounding the conduct of the band's managers at the time.
His friend said that he "passed peacefully" on Saturday (January 5).
With great sadness I have to report that my friend and founder member of the Hollies, bassist Eric Haydock, passed away yesterday. He was found sitting in his chair in front of his TV and the early indications are that he passed peacefully. R.I.P. Eric.

The band's official Facebook page also posted a tribute from drummer Bobby Elliott, who wrote: "In the early 1960s Eric was one of the finest bass players on the planet.
"Along with Tony, Eric and I were the rhythm section that created the springboard for Clarke Hicks and Nash to launch that famous three-way Hollies harmony."
