A year after Genesis bid farewell, Peter Gabriel returns to the road for his first tour in nearly ten years.

Peter Gabriel didn't rejoin Genesis for their farewell Last Domino? tour this year, but maybe seeing his old friends play their last ever show has inspired him to go back on the road.

The band's original lead singer turned 1980s solo superstar has now announced his first UK tour in nearly a decade.

Gabriel's last UK shows were way back in 2014, and he's today announced a massive European jaunt for summer 2023, ending with a clutch of arena concerts in the UK and Ireland.

Tickets for the i/o tour are available now via LiveNation.

The full UK and Ireland tour dates are as follows:

• Saturday 17 June – Utilita Arena, Birmingham
• Monday 19 June – The O2, London
• Thursday 22 June – OVO Hydro, Glasgow
• Friday 23 June – AO Arena, Manchester
• Sunday 25 June – 3Arena, Dublin, Ireland

The dates have an obvious gap on Saturday, June 24, where Gabriel could play the 2023 Glastonbury Festival.

Gabriel made his debut at the festival in 1979, returning with a hits-laden set in 1994.

Peter Gabriel said: "It's been a while and I am now surrounded by a whole lot of new songs and am excited to be taking them out on the road for a spin. Look forward to seeing you out there."

Yes, as well as these live shows, Gabriel confirmed the upcoming release of new album i/o, his first since 2011's New Blood.

That album featured orchestral re-recordings of Gabriel's back catalogue and was preceded by covers collection Scratch My Back and collaborative Big Blue Ball project.

For Gabriel's last solo album of newly-written material we have to go back two decades to 2002's Up, which followed a ten year gap from 1992's Us.

On the upcoming tour, Gabriel will play a mix of new songs from i/o as well as "hits, fan favourites and the unexpected" from his half-century in music.

He will be joined at the shows by regular bandmates Tony Levin, David Rhodes and Manu Katché.
