World's only all-woman Slade tribute band Slady announce Christmas single and tour

Dudes? Looks like it's Slady...

As we all know, Slade effectively disintegrated in 1992 when founding members Noddy Holder and Jim Lea quit the group.

Remaining members Dave Hill and Don Powell continued, first as Slade II, then as just plain old Slade, with Steve Whalley, then Mal McNulty, then the joint team of Russell Keefe and John Berry on lead vocals.

Don was forced out of the band last year, leaving Dave as the only Slade man standing, and he's taking the current lineup out on the road this year for their annual seasonal jaunt.

If you're wanting your Slade songs with a twist though this Christmas, you've got another option for a big night out.

Slady – the world's only all-woman Slade tribute band – have announced their own festive dates this December.

The Slady 2022 Christmas tour dates are as follows:

• Saturday, November 26 – The Robin, Bilston
• Friday, December 9 – The Water Rats, London
• Saturday, December 10 – The Cricketers, Westcliff-on-Sea
• Friday, December 16 – The Con Club, Lewes
• Saturday, December 17 – Norwich Arts Centre, Norwich
• Friday, December 23 – The Rifle Club, Portsmouth

Tickets for all the shows are available now via the band's official website.

What's more, the group have also announced their debut single.

The charity release is a double A-side, featuring a cover of Slade's Christmas cracker 'Merry Xmas Everybody' (of course).

It's backed with an original Slady composition called 'Slade are for Life (Not Just For Xmas)'.

Slady is fronted by Gobby Holder, with the able backing of Davina Hill, Jem Lea and Donna Powell.

Bassist Jem told the Basildon Canvey Southend Echo that the band had been decided to get in the studio after the death of their manager and friend Dave Kemp.

"The idea really came about when we lost our manager to kidney cancer complicated by COVID," she said.

"So we wanted to try and raise some money for charity as well as bringing a new angle to the well-loved classic."

She added: "It was such a fun song to record - proper full-on foot-stomping nostalgia. And we think we've done a pretty good homage to the original."

Formed in 2018, Slady isn't just any old tribute band.

They've been given the seal of approval by the band and made heir live debut at the annual official Slade Fans Convention.

They even appeared at an in-conversation event featuring Noddy Holder and Don Powell at Wolverhampton Art Gallery earlier this year, the former Slade stars' first public reunion in nearly two decades.
