Smokey Robinson announces new album and the title is raising a lot of eyebrows

Smokey Robinson's GASMS is coming soon, and you can hear trailer 'If We Don't Have Each Other' now.

Smokey Robinson has announced his first album of newly-written material in 14 years.

The Motown icon's last LP of new songs was 2009's Time Flies When You're Having Fun.

News of new Smokey material is cause for plenty of celebration, and the title of the new album has also grabbed plenty of attention.

Released on April 28, 2023 and available for pre-order now, Smokey's new record is called GASMS.

It's trailed by a single 'If We Don't Have Each Other', which is available to stream now.

"I chose this song as the first single of my new album because it's different musically and has a slide dance feeling to it… which is different from what I've ever done before," Robinson said.

"It also has a current rhythm of today that I love, and I hope everyone else does too."

Meanwhile, both Smokey and Motown founder Berry Gordy will be made the 2023 MusiCares Persons of the Year with a special tribute concert at the Los Angeles Convention Centre this Friday (February 3).
