Steve Harley: 'Come Up and See Me' and Cockney Rebel singer dies, aged 73

Steve Harley, the iconic frontman of the British rock band Cockney Rebel, passed away at the age of 73.

His musical legacy includes the unforgettable hit 'Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)', which soared to number one on the UK charts in 1975.

Despite battling cancer, Harley continued touring until recently, but ultimately had to cancel dates to focus on treatment.

His daughter, Greta, shared that he peacefully passed away at home, leaving a void felt by people worldwide.

"We know he will be desperately missed by people all over the world," she wrote.

Harley, originally from London, resided in Essex with his wife, Dorothy, and together they raised two children. His family stood by his side during his final moments.

In a heartfelt statement, Greta described her father as someone whose heart radiated passion, kindness, and boundless generosity. His impact extended far beyond the stage.

"Whoever you know him as, his heart exuded only core elements. Passion, kindness, generosity. And much more, in abundance."

Cockney Rebel, formed in the early 1970s in London, featured the talents of Harley, Jean-Paul Crocker, drummer Stuart Elliott, bassist Paul Jeffreys, and guitarist Nick Jones.

A recent post on Harley’s website acknowledged that, due to ongoing cancer treatment, he would be unable to commit to any concerts in 2024.
