Among all the types of recognition out there, there's nothing quite like a blue plaque.
Starting way back in 1866, the original scheme has seen the installation of more than 1,000 plaques across London, each celebrating someone who has some important history in that place in the capital.

And now one of London's greatest pop heroes will be so recognised, as English Heritage has announced T. Rex frontman Marc Bolan will be an upcoming recipient of the honour.
Others to receive a blue plaque this year include Hollywood icon Audrey Hepburn, novelist Barbara Pym, artist Graham Sutherland, ballerina Alicia Markova and feminist activist and writer Una Marson.
Glam rock pioneer Bolan was born in Homerton and died in Barnes, both in the capital, and English Heritage aims to install a plaque at one of the places he lived in West London.
Back in 2021 when English Heritage first shortlisted Bolan for consideration, it was suggested that a plaque could be installed at his former home in Stoke Newington.
English Heritage's curatorial director Matt Thompson said: "From literature and art to dance and music, these figures helped shape the London we know today.
"Their contributions not only had a profound impact on their fields but also continue to inspire generations."
