The Who return to play acoustic set at Royal Albert Hall for Teenage Cancer Trust

The Who have been off the road for two years, but they're finally coming back.

Roger Daltrey is a patron of the Teenage Cancer Trust, so it's no surprise that The Who have played a number of times at the charity's benefit shows.

As well as a couple of solo Daltrey slots, The Who played sets in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2010, and are returning this year for a special acoustic set for the Trust at the Royal Albert Hall.

Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend will play the stripped down show at the iconic venue on Friday, March 25, 2022.

They will be backed by an all-acoustic band featuring Simon Townshend, Phil Spalding, Jodie Linscott, Billy Nicholls, Geraint Watkins, Charlie Hart and Andy Cutting.

Support will come from The Wild Things, who are currently recording an album produced by Townshend.

Other acts on this year's lineup include Don Broco (March 21), Yungblud (March 23), Madness (March 24), Liam Gallagher (March 26) and Ed Sheeran (March 27).

On March 22, Joel Dommett will host a night of comedy featuring Tom Allen, Rob Beckett, Rosie Jones, Romesh Ranganathan, Suzi Ruffell and Seann Walsh.

Tickets for all the shows go on sale this Friday, February 25 at 9am.

Like many bands, The Who have been off the road for the past two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

They recently announced the 2022 North American The Who Hits Back! Tour which follows a string of Daltrey solo performances from last year.

Daltrey said: "Pete and I said we'd be back, but we didn’t think we'd have to wait for two years for the privilege.

"This is making the chance to perform feel even more special this time around."

He added: "So many livelihoods have been impacted due to COVID, so we are thrilled to get everyone back together – the band, the crew and the fans.

"We're gearing up for a great show that hits back in the only way The Who know how. By giving it everything we've got."

The Who's last studio album was the number three charting WHO in 2019, their first since 2006's Endless Wire.
