A second man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an eight-year-old girl and her father were hurt in a shooting in west London.

The Metropolitan Police said the 32-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm yesterday, following the shooting in Ladbroke Grove on Sunday afternoon.

The girl underwent surgery and is in a stable condition. She isn't believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries, but her father, 34, may have been left with life-changing ones.

Witnesses previously described an attacker opening fire directly into a car during the incident on Southern Row just after 5.30pm.

A 32-year-old woman who was also in the vehicle was taken to hospital as a precaution but was not hurt. A two-year-old who was also in the car at the time of the shooting was unharmed.

Another man, 22, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Monday. He has been bailed to a date in early February pending further inquiries.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances and motive.

Superintendent Owen Renowden called the shooting "an appalling incident that has left two people seriously injured".

A police update added: "Local residents will continue to see an increased police presence in and around the area of Southern Row over the coming days. We would urge anyone with concerns to speak to one of them."
